Mahogany Neoclassical Sideboard with Gothic arch doors and reeded melon feet c.1840. The sides are of solid mahogany and not paneled as in later models. The interior is fully developed with a pull-out wine chest and a full compliment of drawers, including an interesting pull-out drawer at the base above the inwardly curving upper drawer of the chest. The backsplash is embellished with flanking columns complimenting the lower columns. This piece is in excellent condition with no alterations.
While this piece exhibits characteristics of Baltimore form, i.e. the reeded feet, we note an old stenciled label under the top serving board indicating "Brooklyn", the balance of which is unreadable. It is, however, interesting to see how shops probably migrated out of New York, where the Phyfe school was located, out to the "suburbs" or country, as it probably felt.
