This chair is related to chairs illustrated in English and American Furniture by Cescinsky & Hunter pg. 271 and also to chairs on pg. 270. While this beautiful and highly stylized arm chair is not an exact mate to the Cescinsky reference, the stylistic characteristics of the lyre form and Sheraton leg speak for themselves. The lyre is finely sculpted with scrolls and rosettes with solid wood strings. The reeding on the stiles is characteristically scooped out at the ends, typical of this form.
We also have a pair of side chairs that came to us with this chair.
