This is an 18th century English oak dower chest with some later 19th century carving. Similar to what we in the states would describe as a hope chest, this particular chest has a lid that opens to reveal an interior fully outfitted with myriad trays for cutlery and linens. Two drawers with brass lion's head ring pulls at the base provide additional storage.
