This corner chair is of large scale, therefore commodious and comfortable, and is fully developed in al the ways these chairs are.  For example, the pierced splats below the handrails have leaf carving  and the arm supports are fully turned, finished with reeded scrolled arms.  The feet have all four with claw and ball; many times these chairs have just a claw and ball in the front and often, just three with a single turned leg in the rear.  The knees are also all carved with acanthus carving.  The chair is quite heavy as it is composed of dense mahogany and is in superb condition, with no repairs or alterations whatsoever.  These chairs are commonly called centennial because they were done in the 1880’s through the turn of the century and are also referred to as revival pieces.  The seat, which bears its original frame, is newly reupholstered with an appropriate fabric.
